PLEASE JOIN THE NETHERCOTE BIOBLITZ ON iRECORD

Nethercote provides natural habitat for wildlife and birds; we see the wildlife on a regular basis but there is no officially recorded data on biodiversity or any wildlife records for the area of Nethercote. Biodiversity is the variety of plant and animal life. Surveying and recording biodiversity can provide valuable information about habitats, plants, animals and natural processes in an area. Information such as the presence of species and habitats, the condition of habitats and the size of wildlife populations can be useful to Identify protected areas and protected species and ensure that they are not adversely affected by human actions. Data on the variety and type of species of tree or shrub found in hedgerow can help to determine it’s age! You can help to create official data for the area of Nethercote by observing and reporting on what you see! This is simple and easy to do, you can spend as little or as much time as you wish and concentrate on the wildlife, habitats and plants that are of interest for you.  You will also be able to see what others have contributed for the area!

A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area. A Nethercote Bioblitz has been established in iRecord that everyone, both residents, visitors and passers through can contribute to in order to build up accurate data that can be used to help protect our Nethercote wildlife in the future! All information captured and verified will be added to the National Biodiversity Network official records. Dependent on how the data builds we can look to set up some specific surveys in the future!

How You Can Join In, To Help Our Wildlife:

1. Go to https://www.brc.ac.uk/irecord/user/register to register your details
   1. Licence options CC0 or CC BY licence option, that will provide the best chance for your photos to be used in research and conservation. CC BY means that you will be credited for any use of your photos
   1. remember to agree to the terms before creating your account
   1. You will need to click on the validation link sent to your email
2. Log in at https://www.brc.ac.uk/irecord/ and select “activities” along the top bar and then “browse all activities”
3. Search for Nethercote & when you see Nethercote Bioblitz, click the yellow star on the right to add it to your activities and then click “join”
4. You will now be a member of Nethercote Bioblitz and can either enter records or explore existing records which will show all records for the area regardless of whether they were contributed as part of the Bioblitz or independently!
5. Take a picture then enter a record for any wild animals, birds, insects, plants, flowers, trees etc you see to help build official records of the species in our area!
6. Have fun!
