Launch of Campaign to “Keep Nethercote Rural”
Nethercote is significant to the history of Banbury and local agriculture alike; creates an important and tranquil green space on the edge of the county; provides an accessible green space for the nearby villages and town and is rich in wildlife including rare species.
The area is vulnerable to development attempts and therefore the area requires some protection against development for now and for the future. Until 1889, Nethercote formed part of the Warkworth Parish, along with the then hamlet of Grimsbury. The original areas of Grimsbury have been designated for protection, but Nethercote has been left exposed!
As part of Cherwell DC Local Plan Review consultation, a proposal has been made to give Local Green Space designation to Nethercote, this would give special protection to the area against development. There are also further designations that Cherwell District Council could consider to protect the area. If you support this, it is important that you let the council know and contact your councillors, MP and other interested authorities to ask that they endorse the campaign to “Keep Nethercote Rural”
West Northants Council are currently reviewing their own Local Plan, consultation is currently open and closes 6th December 2021. Although there is no public consideration of areas local to Nethercote, with a small area of Nethercote falling within West Northants as well as the Bowling Green site which is in the process of being sold, it is inevitably under consideration and therefore crucial that you also let West Northants council know about your views on the area https://westnorthantsplan.inconsult.uk/connect.ti/WNSPOptions/consultationHome or by email strategicplan@westnorthants.gov.uk
Wider support and awareness is needed & therefore a campaign website has been launched with a presence on social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. An ongoing petition has been created and all of the details can be found at:
